Mahila e-Haat launched for women entrepreneurs

Ministry of women and child development (WCD) has launched an online marketing platform Mahila E-HAAT to facilitate women entrepreneurs to sell their products online. 

The portal was aunched by Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi in New Delhi, a day before the International Women’s Day on 8 March.The Mahila e-Haat portal can be accessed at

At a glance - Mahila e-Haat

Mahila e-Haat is an online marketing platform where women entrepreneurs can display and sell their products online. The path-breaking initiative is part of Union Government’s flagship ‘Digital India’ and ‘Stand Up India’ initiatives. 

Objective :  

♦ Mahila E-Haat would help to meet the goal of financial inclusion of women by leveraging technology for showcasing products made or sold by women entrepreneurs. They can also showcase services provided by them.

♦ The portal has been set up with an investment of under Rs.10 lakh from the Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK) an autonomous body under the Union Women and Child Development Ministry for the socio-economic empowerment of women.

Eligibility criteria for registration :

♦ It is open to all Indian women citizens above 18 years of age and women Self Help Groups (SHGs) desiring for marketing their legal products/services. On the day of the launch, about 125,000 beneficiaries under 10,000 self-help groups registered themselves on the portal.

♦ All the sellers are required to show the Mahila e-Haat logo on their products along with their own brand logos as both can be used at the same time.

"Mahila E-Haat" : A step toward women empowerment

♦ "Mahila E-Haat" is a path-breaking initiative toward women empowerment as it will help women entrepreneurs to sell their products online. Women can sell various products like cloths, bags, jewelleries through this portal which will make them financially independent.

♦ The women entrepreneurs do not need to build additional technical infrastructure as entire business on the e-Haat platform can be easily handled through mobile phone.

Three stages of empowerment

♦ The empowerment of women would take place in three stages in which Mahila E-Haat is the first stage.

♦ In the second stage, it is planned to integrate it with e-commerce portals to provide a larger platform for selling and buying.

♦ In the final stage it will culminate into Women’s Entrepreneurs Council which will help to expand this initiative further and give it an institutional shape.
