Bill Gates retains position as World’s Richest Person : Forbes 2016

Microsoft’s co-founder Bill Gates continued his reign as the world’s richest person in the Forbes’ 30th annual ranking of the world’s billionaires list, 2016. Mr. Gates with a net worth of $75 billion has topped the list for 17 of the last 22 year. Although Gates is $4.2 billion poorer than a year ago. Spanish billionaire Amancio Ortega, founder of closing retail giant Zara and the richest man in Europe has occupied the second spot with net worth of $67 billion.

♦ Total number of Billionaires : Forbes’ 2016 list of the world’s billionaires includes 1,810 billionaires down from a record 1,826 a year ago. Their aggregate net worth was $6.48 trillion, $570 billion less than last year. The list includes 190 women billionaires of the world. US has maximum number of billionaires in the world (540 billionaires) followed by China (251), Germany (120) and India (84). 

♦ Top 5 billionaires on the planet : Bill Gates ($75 billion), Mr. Amancio Ortega ($67 billion), Mr. Warren Buffett ($60.8 billion), Mr. Carlos Slim Helu ($50 billion) and Jeff Bezos ($45.2 billion). 

♦ The youngest billionaire in the world : 19-year-old Norwegain heiress, Alexandra Andresen, who has a 42% stake in her family’s business is the youngest billionaire in the world. Her sister Katharina is second youngest, just 20.

♦ Notable newcomers : Cameron Mackintosh is the first theater producer to rank in the list of billionaire; WeWork’s Adam Neumann and Miguel McKelvey and Pinterest’s Ben Silbermann and Evan Sharp.

♦ Billionaires from the field of Internet : com Inc’s founder Jeff Bezos (5), Facebook Inc’s Mark Zuckerberg (6), and Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin ranked 12th and 13th. 

♦ India's richest person : Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited Mukesh Ambani has retained his position as India's richest person in 2016. He was placed at 38th position with net fortune of $20.6 billion.

♦ Indian billionaires under 100 rank : Forbes 2016 includes 84 Indian billionaires which includes pharma magnate Dilip Shanghvi (rank 44 and USD 16.7 billion networth), Wipro Chairman Azim Premji (55 with USD 15 billion networth) and HCL co-founder Shiv Nadar (88 and USD 11.1 billion networth); they all came in among the top 100 billionaires.

♦ Other prominent Indian billionaires : ArcelorMittal Chairman Lakshmi Mittal (135), Bharti Airtel's Sunil Mittal (219), Ports and power magnate Gautam Adani (453), matriarch Savitri Jindal (453), Bajaj Group's Rahul Bajaj (722), Infosys chairman emeritus N R Narayana Murthy (959) and Mahindra Group's Chief Anand Mahindra (1577).

♦ India's women billionaires : Savitri Jindal (453rd rank), Indu Jain (549th), Smita Crishna Godrej (810th), Leena Tiwari (1067th) and Vinod Gupta (1577th).
