  • UNESCO names Poland’s Wroclaw city as the World Book Capital (WBC) for 2016.  
    • UNESCO has been naming a city every year as such beginning 2001 to promote book and reading culture. 
    • National capital Delhi had bagged the honour in 2003 becoming the 3rd such city after the inaugural Madrid (Spain) and Alexandria (Egypt).
    • The 'World Book Capital' for 2014 is Nigerian city of Port Harcourt whereas the next year's honour goes to South Korea’s Incheon city.
  • President of India confers National Awards for Outstanding Services in the Field of Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drug) Abuse.  
    • Best Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA): TRADA (Total Response to Alcohol & Drug Abuse), Kottayam, Kerala

  • Shah Rukh Khan is to be honoured with "Legion of France" - one of the highest civilian honours of France.

  • UCO Bank bags the “Platinum SKOCH Inclusion and Deepening Award 2014” for “excellence in banking”.

    • It has so far trained 46,659 persons, of which 27,000 have become economically self-reliant with a credit linkage of Rs 590 crore.
