  • Govenment may ban sales of loose cigarette to curb smoking.  

     

    The expert panel constituted by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has recommended several other measures as well like...

    • Increasing the minimum legal age for sale of tobacco products.
    • More penalty for violation of certain provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA).
    • The above act prohibits advertisement and regulates trade and commerce, production, supply and distribution of such materials. 
    • It also proposes to make such offences cognizable.
