  • Ratan Tata to head the "Kayakulp" Council to bring innovation in the operation of Indian Railways
    • The newly constituted Council will recommend innovative methods and processes for the improvement, betterment and transformation of the Railways.
  • Centre to develop a 1620-km long navigable waterway between Allahabad and Haldia. 
    • The waterway - called "Jal Marg Vikas" (National Waterway-1) - will take around 6 years to complete with an estimated cost of 4200 crore.
    • This would enable commercial navigation of at least 1500 ton vessels.
    • Technical assistance and investment support is being provided by the World Bank.
  • Sohail Aman becomes the new chief of Pakistan Air Force
    • He replaces the incumbent Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt.
  • Mahendra Singh Dhoni becomes the first Indian and Non-Australian to have won 100 ODIs as captain in world. 
    • He is the 3rd in the world to achieve this distinction, after Allan Border (107 wins) and Ricky Ponting (165 wins).
    • The feat was achieved in the quarter-final match of the '2015 World Cup' played against Bangladesh.
  • Union HRD Minister 'Smriti Irani' is one of the 11 Indians named in the 'Young Global Leader' list released by the World Economic Forum (WEF). 
    • British Prime Minister David Cameron, Alibaba Group chief Jack Ma, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer have been part of this coveted list in the past.
    • Gaurav Gogoi - son of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi - also feature in the list that contains 187 YGLs for this year (2015).
  • Maharashtra is set to rename the iconic beach of 'Girgaum Chowpatty' as Swaraj Bhoomi in the honour of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak
    • The beach - oldest and most famous of Mumbai - offers scenic sunset which attracts thousands footfalls daily.
  • By 2019, India's total nuclear power installed capacity is expected to reach 10,080 MW from the present 5780 MW
    • This will happen after the progressive completion of the projects presently under construction/commissioning.
