  • Madhya Pradesh Government approves the Narmada-Malwa-Gambhir Link Project (NMGLP) with an estimated cost of Rs 2,143 crore.  
    • The project will provide irrigation facility to 158 villages spread across 50 thousand hectares in Indore and Ujjain districts of state.
    • What makes the project unique is no need for constructing a dam and thus resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced people.
    • Rather, Narmada water will be uplifted to a height of 416 meters.
    • The resultant quantum will be used for irrigation, drinking and industries in the parched Malwa region of state.
    • State government has already successfully connected Kshipra river with Narmada. 
  • Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway, is honoured with the inaugural Tang Prize 2014 - coined as Asia's version of the Nobels for its high prize money.   - read more cat
  • Spain coronates its new King "Felipe VI" ; ending the 39-year reign of his father Juan Carlos.  
    • The new king is scandal-free unlike other members of the royal family who have been accused of corruption and excess even as many Spaniards continue to struggle to find jobs in the faltering economy.
  • Germany’s Juergen Stock has been appointed as the new Secretary General of Interpol by its Executive Committee.   
    • He will succeed present Secretary General Ronald K Noble of the US after his retirement in 2015 following three successive tenures. 
    • His appointment is subject to the final approval of Supreme Governing body of Interpol, the General Assembly.
    • CBI Director Ranjit Sinha, the first Indian ever shortlisted for this post, lost this race.
  • Apollo Hospitals bags Gallup Workplace Award for 2014.   
    • It was awarded after featuring in the global list of top 36 organisations having excellent employee engagement resulting in the most productive and engaged workforces.
    • Apollo group of Hospitals, founded by Dr. Prathap Reddy, is now worth Rs.4,384-crore.
    • Gallup Great Places to Work (GGWA) is awarded to organisations that have performed exceptionally in engaging their workforce and leveraging that strength to drive business results and sustainable growth.
  • Rajeev Topno is appointed as the Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  
    • Topno, a 1996 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, was already working as Director in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
  • The Tax Administration Reform Commission (TARC) headed by Parthasarathi Shome has submitted its report to the Union Ministry of Finance.
