  • China becomes the world's 3rd largest arms exporter after the US and Russia: Stockholm International Peace Research Institute 
    • It overtook Germany, France and the UK in terms of exporting weapons between 2010 and 2014.
    • China accounts for nearly 5% of total arms exported globally making a loyal customers out of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
  • Super Cyclone 'Pam' stormed Vanuatu - a small impoverished island nation in the Pacific - into stone age. 
    • The deadly 'category five' storm with Tip's winds reaching the speed over 300 km/hr wiped away all the recent development happened in this country with a population of some 2.5 lakh.
    • The extent of damage is still being assessed as all communication links with many islands is yet to be established.

  • World Consumer Rights Day 2015 was observed on March 15

  • Only 7 railway stations boast of Wi-Fi facility at present in India. 
    • These are: Bengaluru, New Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Agra Cantt, Varanasi and Secunderabad.
    • The internet access is provided free to the users for first 30 minutes.
    • For usage beyond that, it is priced at Rs.25 for 30 minutes and Rs.35 for 1 Hour and is valid through 24 hours.
    • Such facility is proposed to be provided to all 'A-1' & 'A' category stations (Total 75+332 = 407 stations).
  • Center launches a 'National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness Week' at Gurgaon (Haryana). 
    • The week long national campaign will conclude at Kohima (Nagaland) on 22nd March commemorating the celebration of World Water Day.
    • During the campaign, there will be an extensive awareness drive on construction and use of household toilets, keeping the villages clean, safe handling and use of drinking water, awareness of quality of drinking water, water conservation, community managed water supply systems in rural areas involving grassroots level institutions like Village Water and Sanitation Committees, Panchayati Raj Institutions, Angwanwadi , ASHA Workers, schools teachers, Women Self Help Groups and Youth Clubs.
  • Lifts and Escalators at Indian Railway Stations: 244 escalators at 96 stations while 44 railway stations are equipped with 101 lifts as of today. 
    • As per the existing guidelines, escalators/elevators to be provided at 'A1' category and escalators at 'A' category, 'C' category and stations of tourist importance under desirable amenities based on techno commercial feasibility & availability of fund.
    • The total number of railway stations in the country is estimated to be close to 8000.
