  • eMudhra launches first eSign services
    • eMudhra Limited a leading certifying firm in the country for digital signatures, has launched eSign services.
    • eMudhra which claims to be the first to start eSign services has also launched eMlocker - eMudhra's Digital Locker 

    What is eSign ?

    • eSign is an online electronic signature service which can facilitate an Aadhaar holder to digitally sign a document within seconds 
    • The signatures generated by eSign are legally valid and secure under the Information Technology Act, 2000, 
    • As part of the Digital India Vision, Prime Minister launched eSign services in the country on July 1.

    Advantages of  eSign ?

    • ESign can "revolutionise" the way business and governance is conducted in the country and pave the way for a digital transformation into a paperless environment
    • By using eMlocker along with eSign, one can store documents such as PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, electricity bills or any other documents electronically. One can also sign and attest them using eSign and send to anybody

    • Initially, its service are free for the users for unlimited number of document downloads and uploads with free eSign.
  • Sriram Kalyanaraman appointed as MD and CEO of National Housing Bank (NHB)
    • Sriram Kalyanaraman who is currently director-business development Equifax Credit Information Services has been appointed  as the CEO of National Housing Bank for a period of five years. 
    • The appointment of Kalyanraman to the housing finance sector regulator is unique as he is the first person form the private sector to head a public sector financial institution
    • Prior to joining Equifax, Sriram Kalyanaraman was director, business clients and asset products at Deutsche Bank India. 
    • Sriram Kalyanaraman  had also earlier worked as Head of Mortgage business and Sales Director at Standard Chartered Bank in India.
  • Whole of Nagaland declared as 'disturbed area'
    • The Centre has declared entire Nagaland as a "disturbed area"  for a period of one year with effect from June 30, 2015 as it finds that a "dangerous condition" prevails in the state and armed forces should assist the civil administration in maintaining law and order.
    • The decision came almost a month after NSCN-K, the dominant Naga rebel group, attacked an army convoy in Manipur’s Chandel district and killed 18 soldiers. 
    • Subsequently, army commandos carried out an attack in the camps of militants inside Myanmar.
    • Although declaration of 'disturbed area' in Nagaland was nothing new as the government had to extend it as it was about to lapse.
  • MoU inked between Vadodara and China’s Xinjinag province  to develop twin cities
    • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Vadodara and China's Xinjinag province for the development of twin cities. 
    • The MoU,was signed in Mumbai between Vadodara Municipal Corporation and Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjinag Uygur Autonomous Region 
    • The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims at enhancing infrastructure growth and development between the two regions and for mutual cooperation in economic, scientific, technological and cultural strengths
  • Government decides to develop villages within 10 km of international border on priority
    • Villages that are located within 10 km of the international border will be developed on a priority basis with special emphasis on promotion of sports activities and rural tourism
    • Home Ministry has decided that all villages located within 10 km of the international border will be developed on a priority basis with special emphasis on promotion of sports activities and rural tourism
    • It was decided by Home Ministry in consultation with Union Ministries like Rural Development, Sports, Health and Family Welfare and HRD.
    • The funds under BADP are provided to the states as a 100 per cent non-lapsable special central assistance. 
    • The programme is supplemental in nature and the budget allocation for the financial year 2015-16 is Rs.990 crore.

    The list of schemes permissible under BADP has been expanded to include :-

    1. Schemes and activities relating to swatchhta aabhiyan
    2. Skill development programmes
    3. Promotion of sports activities in border areas
    4. Promotion of rural tourism/ border tourism
    5. Protection of heritage sites
    6. Construction of helipads in remote and inaccessible hilly areas which do not have road connectivity
    7. skill development training to farmers for use of modern or scientific technique in farming, organic farming

    Border Area Development Programme (BADP):-

    • BADP was started in 1986-87 for balanced development of border areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat and Rajasthan and subsequently it was extended to all the land borders.
    • The main objective of BADP is to meet special developmental needs and well-being of the people living in remote and inaccessible areas situated near the international border  and to develop the border areas with the entire essential infrastructure through convergence of central/state/ BADP/ local schemes and participatory approach.
    • Border Area Development Programme (BADP) has been implemented in 367 border blocks of 104 border districts in 17 states.


  • Indian Railway’s Launches Mobile Ticketing App for Suburban Commuters
    • Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu launched a paperless mobile ticket system on suburban Western Railway that will facilitate hassle free travel for 7.5 million suburban railway commuters using the Western Railway.
    • Mobile application based paperless ticket system is a part of 'Digital India' programme of the Centre and will be available on the Western Railway's suburban system between Churchgate and Dahanu Road
    • The ticket can be purchased using debit or credit or R-wallet. The R-wallet can be loaded from any UTS counter online 
    • After downloading the Mobile Ticketing app, commuter will have to choose city 'Mumbai' and he will have to recharge his debit or credit card (R-Wallet) with railway counter with minimum 100 or maximum 5,000 rupees
    • After downloading the UTS app will not have to stand in the queue or visit automated ticket vending machine (ATVM) kiosk at stations to get the ticket
  • Lord Kamlesh Patel became first British-Asian appointee to England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)
    • Professor Lord Kamlesh Patel of Bradford, an OBE and a leading voice on health, social care and community cohesion in the UK, has become the first British Asian to join the England and Wales Cricket Board.
    • Lord Patel, who currently sits in the House of Lords as a Labour Peer, formerly worked for the Yorkshire Cricket Academy as a part-time coach. 
    • Last year, patel served on the judging panel of the inaugural Asian Cricket Awards supported by ECB. Lord Patel is a former ambulance-man, special constable and social worker.
    • Kamlesh Patel succeeds Lord Morris of Handsworth, who is stepping down after 11 years as an ECB Director. 
    • Kamlesh Patel is  a Professor at the University of East London and Chair of the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundations Trust, Lord Patel is a former Chairman of the Mental Health Act Commission 
    •  Lord Kamlesh Patel has served as a government minister in the House of Lords from 2008-2009 and on the shadow front-bench in the upper house from 2010-2012.
