  • India lose maritime territory to Bangladesh in a UN tribunal ruling.  
    • The court awards Bangladesh 19,467 square km of the total 25,602 sq km of disputed territory in the Bay of Bengal.
    • The verdict is final and binding as there is no option for appeal. 
    • Bangladesh has filed the case in 2009 under the UN Convention on Law of Sea (UNCLOS) against India.

  • Ashraf Ghani is set to be the next President of Afghanistan.  
    • He secures 56.4% of valid votes as against 43.5% of his rival Abdullah Abdullah.
    • The official result will only be declared on July 24 following the scrutiny and auditing of votes in the wake of alleged voting fraud.
    • He has served as the economist in the World Bank.
  • Veteran Indian tennis star Vijay Amritraj launches the IPL-style Champions Tennis League (CTL).
