  • Himachal Pradesh gets green-concept based state data centre


    Himachal Pradesh has became the first state in the country to have a State Data Centre (SDC), designed using green data centre concept, to offer 101 people-oriented service online through an integrated data base. It was launched by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in Shimla.

    Himachal Pradesh gets green-concept based state data centreSDC would integrate the websites of various departments and all services could be accessible through the integrated data base, saving time and money spent on creation of infrastructure.

    State Data Centre has been set up by IT Department using state-of-the-art technology and it is first SDC in the country which has been designed using green data centre concept to minimise power requirement and increase power utilisation efficiency. 

    It would help in reducing the burden on state exchequer and at the same time help in the integration of online databases of various departments. It would provide all services in digital format thus, giving boost to paperless governance. 

  • Dia Mirza named ambassador for Swachh Saathi programme

    Dia Mirza named ambassador for Swachh Saathi programmeBollywood actress Dia Mirza has been named the ambassador for Swachh Bharat Mission's youth-based 'Swachh Saathi' (student internship) programme. 

    As the ambassador, the actress would interact with school and college students from across the country through awareness sessions, community cleaning activities and motivational videos.

    Under the Swachh Saathi programme, more than 2,000 interns would be enrolled, who would coordinate with around 10,000 schools across the country and ensure that all students in these schools take the pledge for Clean India.

  • India, US ink MoU to facilitate hassle-free entry of Indians into US


    India and the US have signed an MoU to facilitate hassle-free entry of Indians into America at selected airports by providing speedy security clearances for pre-approved, low-risk travelers from the country.

    India is only the ninth country with which the US has entered into this International Expedited Traveller Initiative (also known as the Global Entry Programme), reflective of the growing relationship between the two largest democracies of the world.

    The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Indian Ambassador to the US Arun K Singh and Kevin K McAleenan, Deputy Commissioner of US Customs and Border Protection.

    The US is home to more than 3 million Indian-origin people who continue to maintain deep-rooted links with India so India's entry into Global Entry Programme will further ease travel between the two countries and strengthen people-to-people ties.

    Global Entry Programme: Currently, Global Entry Programme is available at more than 40 US airports and 12 pre-clearance locations. More than 1.8 million people are enrolled in Global Entry and approximately 50,000 new applications for the programme are filed every month.

  • India ranked 2nd on GRD index on ease of doing business


    India has jumped 13 positions from last year to rank second among 30 developing countries when it comes to ease of doing business as per 2016 Global Retail Development Index (GRDI) released by London-based business consultancy A T Kearney.

    India ranked 2nd on GRD index on ease of doing businessA sharp pick up in GDP growth and better clarity regarding FDI regulations have helped india achieve a second ranking. India has relaxed several key Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) regulations in single-brand retail and this has paved the way for multinational firms to enter the market.

    India's retail sector has expanded at a compound annual growth rate of 8.8 per cent between 2013 and 2015, with annual sales crossing the USD 1 trillion mark.

    India has also become the world's fastest growing economy. That coupled with a large population base and the easing of FDI regulations in the sector has made it an even more attractive market.

    India's retail sector has also benefited from the rapid growth in e-commerce. India is the world's second largest internet market and the increasing internet and smartphone penetration is contributing to the expansion of e-commerce. 

    Global Retail Development Index (GRDI) : The GRDI is annually published by London-based business consultancy A T Kearney.It analyses 25 macroeconomic and retail-specific variables to help retailers devise successful global strategies to identify emerging market investment opportunities.The study is unique as it identifies the markets that are most attractive in present and also their future potential.

  • India becomes co-chair of Working Group on Maritime Situational Awareness under CGPCS


    India has became the co-chair of Working Group on Maritime Situational Awareness under Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia (CGPCS) in recognition of its pro-active role in combating the problem of piracy off the Somalian Coast and in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

    Decision in this regard, was taken through a consensus during the 19th Plenary Session of the CGPCS held in Mahe, Seychelles from 31st May to 3th June 2016. Seychelles is the current chairman of the CGPCS for the biennium 2016-17.

    Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia (CGPCS) 

    India becomes co-chair of Working Group on Maritime Situational Awareness under CGPCSCGPCS was set up in 2009 as a group of interested and affected nations, industry associations and multilateral agencies to take pro-active steps for checking piracy in the Indian Ocean region through a UN Security Council resolution. 

    In its 7 year of working the Contact Group has been able to effectively deal with the issues relating to piracy off the coast of Somalia.

    So far more than 60 countries and international organizations have become part of this forum to work collectively for the prevention of piracy off the Somali coast.

  • Rajasthan launches mobile app on air quality index


    Rajasthan launches mobile app on air quality indexRajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has launched a mobile app RajVayu for sharing information about air quality index of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur. Another app 'Drishti' for monitoring of pollution levels in industrial regions was also launched.

    Both apps were launched on the eve of World Environment Day. It should be noted that Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) is the first state Board in the country to have this app for its citizens.

    Key features of  RajVayu :

    RajVayu is based on the data collected by sophisticated air quality monitoring equipment and weather sensors. The app has been designed by Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) jointly with Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM).

    It would share details about the air quality, such as levels of pollutants likes Particulate Matter, SOx, NOx, CO, Ozone particles with the city residents and tourists.

    It would also share temperature, wind speed, humidity, weather forecast and advisories. This is based on the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting Research (SAFAR-India). Presently, Delhi, Mumbai and Pune are connected with this system.

    By 2017, the services of this application would be expanded other cities in the state including in Ajmer, Alwar, Bhiwadi, Kota and Pali.
