  • India is the new World Champion of Blind Cricket; beats Pakistan by five wickets in the final held in South Africa.  
    • It was the 4th Cricket World Cup for the Blind and Pakistan have made it to the finals of all editions.
    • South Africa won the inaugural edition in 1998 while Pakistan captured the next two titles.
  • Government plans to introduce passenger bus services to Dhaka from Guwahati in Assam via Shillong in Meghalaya.  
    • A trial run is being organized on 10-11th December, 2014 to assess route conditions and other technical parameters. 
    • Two passenger bus services to Dhaka already operating from Kolkata in West Bengal and Agartala in Tripura.
    • The service spanning 500-km terminates at Dhaka via Guwahati-Shillong-Sylhet. 
  • Britain inks pact with Bahrain to set up a permanent naval base at Mina Salman Port, Bahrain.  
    • The base will be in addition to the UK’s four-mine hunter warships permanently based in Bahrain that supports British destroyers and frigates in the Gulf region.
  • India beat Pakistan to create a new world record for the largest human flag.  
    • Over 50,000 volunteers gathered to form the flag beating the previous record held by the Sports Club of Lahore with 28,957 people.
  • Inaugural World Soil Day was observed by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on 5 December 2014.   
    • The year 2015 has been declared as the UN International Year of Soils.
    • Earlier, king of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej had requested UN to observe this day to raise awareness about the soil and its usage.
    • The day coincides with his birthday.
  • International Civil Aviation Day 2014 celebrated worldwide on December 7.  
    • The day marks the anniversary of the 'International Civil Aviation Organization' which was created in 1944 on the same day.
    • This year theme is “Promoting global friendship and understanding”.
    • The observance aims to generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation in the social and economic development of States, and of the role of ICAO in promoting the safety, efficiency and regularity of international air transport.
  • Indian PM Narendra Modi is declared ‘Asian of the Year’ by Singapore’s leading daily 'The Straits Times'.   
    • Last year's award was shared by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and China's President Xi Jinping. 
    • The inaugural award, in 2012, had gone to Myanmar's Thein Sein.
