  • Ministers from Surface Transport, Shipping,Tourism and Water Resources would work together to clean up the Ganges which is one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s Mission.
    • The mission aims to cleanse the polluted holy river and also to make it a spiritual hub .
    • A meeting which was presided by Union Minister for Surface Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari took place to discuss various issues.
  • Application for TOR (Terms Of Reference ) and Environment Clearances can now done online.
    • This is an initiative by Prakash Javadekar ,Minister of State for Environment and Climate change.
  • As expected RBI keeps its repo rate unchanged at 8%, the reserve repo rate was maintained at 7%.
    • It also left the Cash Reserve Ratio unchanged at 4% and SLR was cut by 50 basis points.
  • Jordan`s Prince Zeid al-Hussein has been nominated by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon as the next UN high commissioner for Human Rights.
    • He would be replacing Navi Pillay who was holding the position for six years.
    • Zeid al –Hussein was previously Jordan`s ambassador to the United Nations.
  • The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project has attained its maximum capacity of 1000MWe. It previously reached its 90 % capacity on 5th May.
  • Irish author Eimear Mc Bride wins Baileys Women`s Prize for Fiction for her debut Novel “A Girl is a Half Formed Thing”.The prize is worth 30,000 pounds.
