    As per Section 2(i) of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act 1995, disability means...

    • Blindness, low vision, leprosy-cured, hearing impairment, loco motor disability, mental retardation, and mental illness.
    • Moreover, Centre has introduced 'The Rights of Persons with Disability Bill 2014' in the Rajya Sabha which recognizes 19 specified disabilities based on an evolving and dynamic concept.
    • The new legislation mandates framing of guidelines by the Central Government for the purpose of assessing the extent of specified disability in a person.
