  • Union rural development minister and senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde dies in a road accident on his way to the Delhi airport.  
    • He, the OBC face of BJP in Maharashtra and an MP from Beed district, was also seen as a prospective CM candidate for Maharashtra for the upcoming assembly election.
    • He was the Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly during 1992-1995. 
    • He has been the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra during 1995-1999. 
    • He has also served as the Deputy Leader of the BJP in the Lok Sabha.
  • Spanish monarch Juan Carlos I to abdicate the throne in favour of his son and Crown Prince Felipe.  
    • The decision to quit after nearly 40 years on the throne seems to be influenced by his failing health and depleting popularity.

  • Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has been appointed as India's Governor on the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank.  
    • He succeds P Chidambaram for this post which is held by the union Finance Minister of the country.
  • Tapan Sikdar, face of BJP in West Bengal, passes away at 69.   
    • He was elected to Lok Sabha twice (1998, 1999) from Dum Dum constituency in West Bengal - the only BJP candidate to win from the state then.
    • He was a union minister of state for telecom in the NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
