  • Right to the City campaign launched.
    • It aims at making urban spaces more inclusive, keeping in mind the lakhs of migrants that move here from rural India every year.
    • Half of the country’s population will live urban India by 2025, therefore the new campaign launched here on Monday put the focus on preparing for that future well in advance.
    • It calls for people-centric approaches in urban development.
    • From recreational spaces to adequate housing, making the rights of an urban citizen integral to planning is the agenda of the campaign.
  • Climate talks started in Lima.
    • The world’s nations gathered in the Peruvian capital Lima,in a renewed push for a deal to roll back carbon emissions threatening future generations.
    • The 12-day talks under the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) take place amid grim scientific warnings and a surge in interest in sealing a pact in Paris in December 2015.
  • France eager to be part of make in India.
    • Visiting French Defence Minister Yves Le Drian has expressed the desire of France to be part of the Make in India initiative and has discussed the possibilities for the French defence industry’s contribution towards it.
    • France is already a major player in the Indian defence sector. Six French DCNS Scorpene submarines are being built in India by Mazagaon Dock Limited in Mumbai under transfer of technology .
    • France is also eager to conclude a deal for a short range surface-to-air missile, Maitri, to be jointly developed by India and France.
    • A major joint aero-naval exercise Varuna is scheduled in April 2015.It will be France’s maiden aero-naval exercise in the Indian Ocean.
  • The Output of core infrastructure industries grew 6.3 per cent in October, highest in 4 months.
    • Within the eight industry groups, coal scored very well with 16.2 per cent growth, Electricity generation grew 10.5 per cent over 1.3 per cent last year, Cement production declined 1 per cent.
    • Natural gas output growth was down minus 4.2 per cent, fertilizers minus 7 per cent and cement sector contracted minus 1 per cent.
    • These eight industries have a weight of 37.9 per cent in the Index of Industrial Production.
  • Tabare Vazquez wins Uruguay's run-off election.
    • Uruguay's leftist candidate Tabare Vazquez has easily beaten rival Luis Lacalle Pou in a presidential run.
    • Mr Vazquez, 74, is a cancer doctor who served as president from 2005-10.
    • He won the first round of voting in October with more than 46% of the vote but it was not enough for an outright majority.
