    PV Sindhu wins Macau Open Grand Prix Gold for the third consecutive time

    Ace Indian shuttler and two-time defending champion P V Sindhu has won the USD 120,000 at Macau Open Grand Prix 2015 Gold Badminton tournament in the women’s single category.

    Sindhu (World No. 12)  produced a dominating performance and defeated Minatsu Mitani (World No. 6) of Japan by 21-9, 21-23, 21-14 score in the match that lasted an hour and six minutes.

    With this victory, Sindhu has won this title for the third consecutive time as she had won this title earlier in 2013 and 2014.This was PV Sindhu’s fifth title of her career and first title of the 2015 season. Her other four individual titles are :-

    1. Indonesia International (2011)
    2. Malaysia Masters (2013) 
    3. Macau Open for consecutive two times in 2013 and 2014.

    Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg wins 2015 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix title of F1

    German Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg has won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix title of Formula One (F1) held at Yas Marina Circuit marking his third successive victory of the season. Abu Dhabi Grand Prix title race was the nineteenth and final round of the 2015 season of Formula One.

    It should be noted that this victory was was Rosberg’s overall fourteenth championship title of F1 in his career and the sixth win in the 2015 season after Spain, Monaco, Australian, Mexican and Brazilian Grand Prix.

    Coast Guard commissions interceptor boat  'ICGS C-422' to enhances vigil

    Coast Guard interceptor boat  'ICGS C-422' has been commissioned in a traditional ceremony at Karaikal port to enhance vigil along Puducherry and South Tamil Nadu coast.

    The vessel has been commissioned to strengthen coastal security in the region. Coast Guard already has two fast patrol vessels ICGS Rani Durgavati, ICGS Ameya and two interceptor boats C-428 and C-415 at Karaikal.

    The vessel ICGS C422 has been equipped with modern navigation and communication system. It is fitted with state-of-the-art communication, navigational equipment and adequate fire power. The boat is capable of multiple tasks including surveillance, interdiction, and search and rescue.

    NHAI approves pilot project for developing greenbelts along National highways

    The National Highways Authority of India ( NHAI) today approved a pilot project submitted by National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) for developing greenbelts along the national highways (NHs).

    The project will be implemented on a 5 km stretch on NH-7 between Jam and Hinganghat in Nagpur region at an estimated cost of Rs 11.80 crore under whcih around 20,000 trees of scientifically chosen species have been proposed to be planted on both sides of the stretch in multiple rows.Work activities have been delineated considering two major factors :-

    (a)  Highway requirement and objectives

    1.  Traffic frequency
    2.  Available space
    3.  Soil type
    4.  Water availability
    5.  Climatic conditions
    6.  Anthropogenic interference

    (b)  Plant characteristics to fit in the site requirement

    1. Height
    2. Canopy cover
    3. Air pollution Tolerance Index
    4. Sociability

    The project will run for 5 years, and during this period various experiments will be conducted in NEERI laboratory to record the impact of greenbelt development.Besides developing greenbelt, the project will also assist in developing relevant research infrastructure that may be used for similar studies in future.

    Andy Murray led Great Britain have won the 2015 Davis Cup for the first time since 1936 and for the 10th time in the 115-years history of  Davis Cup. Andy Murray defeated David Goffin of Belgium by 6-3, 6-1, 2-6, 1-6, 0-6 score. Great Britain tennis team defeated Belgium team by 3-1 score in the finals to win the 104th edition of the competition.

    • First round:- David Goffin of Belgium defeated Kyle Edmund of Great Britain by 6-3, 6-1, 2-6, 1-6, 0-6 score.

    About Davis Cup :-

    • The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis.     West Indian spinner Sunil Narine suspended from international cricket for illegal bowling action

    West Indies off spinner Sunil Narine was suspended from international cricket with immediate effect after his action was found ‘illegal’ by the International Cricket Council (ICC) although Narine could reapply for a re-assessment after modifying his action.

    Test of his bowling action was performed at the ICC’s accredited testing centre in Loughborough University which revealed  that all variations of his deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.

    In accordance with Article 6.1 of the regulations, Narine's international suspension will also be recognised and enforced by all National Cricket Federations within domestic cricket events played in their own jurisdiction although with the consent of the West Indies Cricket Board, Narine may be able to play in domestic cricket events played under the auspices of the West Indies Cricket Board.
