  • Roger Federer wins Gerry Weber title for record 8th time
    • Roger Federer showed he is ready for Wimbledon by defeating Italy's Andreas Seppi 7-6 (1), 6-4  on Sunday in Halle, Germany, to claim his record eighth Gerry Weber Open title.
    • It was Federer’s fourth title of the season, after wins at Brisbane, Dubai and Istanbul, and a timely boost for Wimbledon eight days before the tournament begins.
    • Andy Murray claimed his 34th career title and third title of the season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over unseeded Kevin Anderson in the final of the grass-court Queen’s Club tournament in London. Murray joined John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt as four-time winners of the event

  • Former Indian women hockey captain Shashi Bala passes away
    • Former Indian women hockey captain Shashi Bala passed away along with her 15-year-old son following a road accident in Punjab.
    • 45-year-old Shashi was travelling with son Agrim Thakur were fatally injured in the accident, which occurred in the Ropar-Nawanshahr-Phagwara area

    About Shashi Bala :-

    • Shashi Bala was Indian Railway Women Hockey Team coach and had been Indian Women Hockey Captain for many years. She was well known for her great role in bringing Indian Railway Women Hockey to International level.
    • Bala captained the women's hockey team in 1997, leading them at the FIH Women's World Cup Qualifiers that year, held in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare

  • International Yoga Day: Stamps, coins and commerce
    • The government of India has released stamps and coins of the denomination of Rs.10 and Rs.100 on International Yoga Day (IYD) on June 21
    • The Department of Posts is bringing out stamp and the finance ministry coins.
    • Earlier, in 1991, Yoga stamps were also released by department of posts.
    • Also, on IYD, the Discovery Channel has telecasted a short film 'The Story of Yoga' to take viewers through a journey of rediscovering the Indian ancient practice.

  • HAL delivers ‘Orbiter Craft Module Structure’ of Chandrayaan-2 to ISRO
    • Defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) which is headquartered at Bengaluru has delivered the 'Orbiter Craft Module Structure' of Chandrayaan-2 to ISRO Satellite Centre 
    • India's second lunar exploration mission, Chandrayaan-2 consists of an orbiter, lander and rover configuration.
    • The Chandrayaan-2 mission which aims to place an Orbiter around the moon and sending a Lander and Rover to the surface of the moon will be launched by a Geo-Stationary Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-MKII)
    • India had launched Chandrayaan-1 on October 22, 2008

    What is orbiter craft module :-

    • Orbiter craft module is a three-tonne category bus structure made out of a central composite cylinder, shear webs and deck panels.The orbiter with scientific payloads will orbit around the moon and the lander will soft land on the planet at a specified site and deploy the Rover.
    • The scientific payloads onboard the Orbiter, Lander and Rover are expected to perform mineralogical and elemental studies of the lunar surface. Chandrayaan-2 will be launched by a Geo-Stationary Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-MKII) in the next two to three years

  • Egypt names ambassador to Israel after 3 years
    • Egypt has named a new ambassador to Israel nearly three years after it had recalled the last one at the outset of the 2012 Israeli offensive in Gaza.
    • President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi named ambassador Hazem Khairat as part of a regular reshuffle of Egypt's diplomatic corps. Khairat replaced Atef Salem Al-Ahl, who was in his post for less than a month in late 2012.Hazem Khairat was a former ambassador to Chile.Egypt was the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel in 1979 which was followed by Jordan in 1994
    • Islamist President Mohammed Morsi recalled Al-Ahl to protest Israel's offensive air raids in November 2012 on the Gaza Strip that killed top Hamas militant Ahmed Jaabari.
    • But Morsi played a key role with the United States in negotiating a truce, making him the first Muslim Brotherhood leader to mediate between Israel and Gaza's Islamist rulers. El-Sissi has kept good ties with Israel since he came to office after ousting Morsi however relations have been strained with Gaza's rulers.

  • Taliban launch attack on Afghan parliament
    • Taliban launch attack on Afghan parliament today as president's nominee for the crucial post of defence minister was to be introduced in parliament
    • The seven attackers were killed by police after a two-hour gun battle all lawmakers were reported to be safe. Several civilians, including two women and two children, were wounded by flying glass
    • A Taliban fighter driving a car detonated a bomb outside parliament gates and six gunmen raced into the compound.However, they were pushed back by security forces to a building under construction from which the terrorists continued their battle with the police.Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
    • The withdrawal of foreign forces and a reduction in US air strikes have allowed Taliban fighters to launch several major attacks in important Afghan provinces
    • Taliban militants have captured Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz province in northern Afghanistan after heavy fighting with local security forces it is the second district captured by Taliban in the northern Kunduz province which borders Tajikistan prior to this on 20th June 2015 the militants had captured Chardara district of this province

  • The National Stock Exchange (NSE) will aunch an overnight liquid transaction facility on its web-based Mutual Fund platform from today
    • The facility will enable traders, especially small investors, to invest even for a single night in liquid funds.Participants will be allowed to enter overnight orders in the liquid scheme between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    • A similar facility enabling traders to invest even for a single night in liquid funds, was introduced last month by the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).The exchange has seen daily transactions worth Rs 400-500 crore in the product so far. 
    • This facility will only be available on Mutual Fund Service System ( MFSS) web-based platform and in physical mode only for which The exchange would provide a separate window to place overnight orders on the web-based platform 
    • Under the new facility, all liquid schemes allowed by respective asset management companies ( AMC) would be available for placing orders, Participants shall enter the subscription and redemption order simultaneously in overnight liquid order entry window .

    What is Mutual Fund Service System (MFSS)?

    Mutual Fund Service System (MFSS) is an online order collection system provided by NSE to its eligible members for placing subscription or redemption orders.
